Program Notes
So Happy I Could Dance is scored for oboe and marimba. It was commissioned by Danny Cruz for his 2022 International Double Reed Society showcase concert, and premiered alongside percussionist extraordinaire, Dan Hartung.

Danny Cruz is a bundle of joy and energy. His endearing personality and top-tier musicianship have garnered him a large and devoted following throughout the oboe community and beyond. My favorite thing about Danny’s music career is his desire to create community through music.

I wanted to write Danny a piece that attempted to capture his endearing personality. To add an element of playfulness and movement, each performer wears a pair of foot jingles, dancing out rhythms and adding an additional element of rhythmic counterpoint.

– Ivan Trevino, July 2023

Performance Notes
– Each performer wears a set of jingles on each foot. While there are a number of options for the specific kind of jingles, one option I found to work well is the Cajon Foot Tambourine made by Meinl.

– 5.0 oct. marimba is required
