Reflecting on the beginning of my composing career, Memento (2004) is where it all started. It was the first “classical” piece I ever composed, and I wouldn’t have written it without the support and encouragement of John Beck, my former professor at Eastman School of Music. It is an idiomatic marimba solo with a pop sensibility and set the groundwork for my compositional style moving forward that was 2nd place at the Percussive Arts Society International Composition Contest. This is the 4.3-octave version for those who may not have a 5.0 readily available.
