Description

3 Riffs (2014) was written for timpanist Charles Ross and the Brevard Music Center. The piece is in three movements: Grunge Riff, Indie Riff, and Rock Riff, and is scored for timpani (six drums) and cello trio. I decided to use my electric guitar as my lone composition tool for this piece. Rather than having an elaborate composition plan, I decided to “riff out”, eventually choosing three riffs to build a larger work from.
