New Projects

I’m really excited about these new projects!

  • Flow for marimba / snare drum soloist and percussion trioFlow, commissioned by Dr. Eric Willie, professor of percussion at Tennessee Tech University, is scored for marimba / snare drum soloist and percussion trio. Here’s a video of the premiere from PASIC 2013:

  • Open Your Eyes for marimba trio: Commissioned by the Wisconsin New Works for Percussion Project, a consortium organized by Colin O’Day and Jordan Kamps. The piece, entitled Open Your Eyes, was premiered by Colin, Jordan, and myself at the PAS Wisconsin Day of Percussion on January 18, 2014. Sheet music for Open Your Eyes will be available in the summer of 2014. Here’s a live video of the premiere:

  • Catching Shadows for percussion sextet: Commissioned by Michael BurrittCatching Shadows was premiered by the Eastman Percussion Ensemble at the 2013 Percussive Arts Society International Convention. Sheet music for Catching Shadows is now available.

  • Crossed Wires for multiple percussion soloist & iPhone / iPad: Crossed Wires, commissioned by a consortium led by Phillip O’Banion, professor of percussion at Temple University. The piece, currently in two parts, was premiered by Phillip at Temple University on Oct. 8, 2013. The piece is scored for quasi-drum set, prepared vibraphone, and live iPhone / iPad looping. It is currently being expanded to add two additional movements. Sheet Music for Crossed Wires will be available in the fall of 2014.
  • Things We Dream About for flute & percussion duo: Commissioned by the A/B flute and percussion duo, (Meerenai Shim and Chris Jones). Things We Dream About is a four movement work inspired by four things we often dream about; Love, Success, Lost Loved Ones, and Happiness. The piece is scored for amplified flute, vibraphone, and drum set (and delay pedal), and was premiered at the Center for New Music in San Francisco on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013. The piece will be featured on A/B Duo’s upcoming EP release. Sheet Music for Things We Dream About will be available in the fall of 2014.   • Duo for Vibraphone and Drum Set: I’ve been commissioned to compose a duo for vibraphone and drum set. The consortium, lead by percussionists Luis Rivera and Justin Alexander, will be premiered in the fall of 2014.
  • Marimba Solo w/ Tape: Percussionist Chris Lizak is organizing a consortium to have me compose a new piece for marimba solo and tape. If you’re interested in finding out more about the consortium and how to join, contact Chris at christopher.lizak@gmail.com
  • Percussion Concerto for wind ensemble: I’ve been commissioned by the University of Wisconsin at Steven’s Point to compose a concerto for percussion soloist and wind ensemble. The piece will be premiered in late 2014, performed by me and the UWSP wind ensemble.
  • Skylarkers for wind ensemble: I’ve been commissioned by the University of Tennessee at Martin to arrange my piece Skylarkers for wind ensemble. The piece will be premiered in late 2014, performed by percussionist Julie Hill and the UTM wind ensemble.
  • New Break of Reality Album: I’m currently working on a new album with my band Break of Reality! It is due out on March 25, 2014.
